Adolescent Group Classes

Dogs 6 to 18 months old

Adolescents make up 47.7% of all dogs surrendered to shelters.

Why? Because these dogs no longer look like puppies, but stil exhibit puppy behavior. They are the size of adult dogs with the mindset of a puppy.

Adolescent dogs do well in group basic obedience classes.

Group Classes teach your dog

  • to respect and listen to YOU
  • to behave around other people
  • to listen around other dogs
  • to respond when there are distractions
  • to learn proper socialization skills
  • commands such as sit, stay, come, heel, leash walking, down, wait and leave it

Group classes generally consist of between 3 and 12 dogs and their owners and are held at various times and locations in Northern Nevada. Please see below for a detailed schedule.

The class instructor is present to teach the owners how to train their own dogs. This technique is most useful for basic obedience commands such as sit, down, stay, come and heel. Because the owner is the one teaching the dog, the class instructor helps to mold the initial responses to the commands in class. The owner is then responsible for practicing the commands at home. The classes meet for one-hour a week for a total of six weeks.

Enrollment is done on a first-come, first-served basis as space is limited. Our classes are generally full before the first day of class. Therefore, in order to ensure a place in the class, you must pre-register by going to the class location and signing up.
