What is a rescue dog?
Rescue dogs are dogs that, for one reason of another, have been displaced from their original homes. They may have been given up by their owners, taken away by an animal welfare organization, or abandon on the street or in the shelter.
Where do rescues come from?
The simplest answer is that rescues come from people who don't care enough about their pets to make a lifelong commitment to them. Either the people didn't reseach the breed before they bought it, they didn't train the dog, they didn't get it spayed and neutured - the excuses are endless. The reason for the animal to be homeless is NEVER the dogs fault.
Why do such wonderful dogs end up in rescue?
People buy dogs because of their looks, because they saw one on TV, because of their size, because they had one when they were littl eor likes their friend's dog just like it - not because of how their personality matches with theirs. As wonderful as all breeds are, there is no one breed that is pefect for everyone.
Are rescue dogs mutts?
No - many dogs that end up in rescue are purebred - there are even rescues that focus on a specific breed - Rottweiler Rescue, Labrador Rescue, Chihuahua Rescue or Boxer Rescue - just to name a few.
How can I prevent my dog from needing to be rescued?
Research the breed before bringing one into your home.
Spay and neuter your pets.
