In conformation events, dogs are judged according to how well they measure up to their breed standard. For a dog to be eligible to compete in conformation, pup has to be intact (ie: not spayed nor neutered) and be AKC registered dog. And have no major conformation faults
These lessons prepare you for competition in conformation dog shows, where purebred dogs compete first against their own breed to see which is the best example of their breed's standard, then against other groupings of similar types of dogs for the best in their group, and finally which group winner gets the honor of being "Best in Show"
To enter an American Kennel Club (AKC) sanctioned conformation show your dog must be registered with AKC. If your dog is spayed or neutered or is a mixed breed you cannot compete in AKC sanctioned conformation shows, but you can compete in Fun Shows. There are clubs that sponsor shows for mixed breed dogs.
Dogs interested in these lessons should have at least Basic training (obedience) skills.
